Leafy London – Long Term Update

So, range anxiety is the thing holding you back from buying an electric car, right? It’s one of the most frequent excuses given to not considering an electric car and, I have to say, understandably so. The fear of not being able to reach your destination and the ramifications that brings with it aren’t exactly enticing. I’d love to tell you that running out of range is a wonderous experience that isn’t filled with grief or difficulty… but I can’t. The reason I can’t, is because I have never run out of range in an electric car.

Turning over a new Leaf – Long Term Update

Our Nissan Leaf long term test car has arrived, hurrah! The Leaf will be my daily driver over the next few months and I intend to fully capitalise on its electric efficiency. OY16XLO is a 30kWh Tekna, meaning it has the largest battery currently offered by Nissan and the highest level of equipment too – thank you Nissan! Official range is estimated at 155 miles (NEDC) but, as is true for all electric cars currently, true range is lower. The 100% fully charged Leaf shows 111 miles range currently and as weather conditions are favourable, this is likely to be about right and accurate. However, because OY16XLO isn’t a new…

Can the Grid Cope with Charging Electric Cars?

My Electric Avenue is a three-year Ofgem-funded project that has been carrying out trials to discover the impact that charging clusters of electric vehicles (EVs) might have on local electricity networks at peak times. As sales of plug-in cars continue to rise*, and as EVs gain ever-larger battery capacities, the trial results show that collaborative action will be needed by the energy and automotive industries to support the growing…

Nissan and Ecotricity Call for Official EV Charging Point Road Signage

Nissan and Ecotricity are campaigning to the UK government to introduce official road signage to highlight the location of the many thousands of standard and rapid EV charging points across the UK.

There are more than 9,000 EV charging points across the nation yet no official signage to help motorists find these often obscurely positioned charge points. The locations of charge points has largely been a lottery in…

Electric Blue Officially Opens First Rapid Taxi Charge Point in Watford

Amongst the daffodils of Watford, there is a new tall white monolith that has seemingly landed from space. It’s not quite the scene from 2001 A Space Odyssey, but not far off. Electric Blue, the new electric taxi company with a difference, has installed their first electric charge point in Watford, near the bus stop
