England Women’s football captain Casey Stoney has joined the likes of Phil Jagelka and Gary Neville in becoming the latest England star to take delivery of an award winning Vauxhall Ampera.

Arriving in showrooms last year, the Ampera has a real-world battery range of between 25-50 miles, after which a small range-extending generator, powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine, intervenes to provide up to an additional 300-plus mile range. At all times, the Ampera’s wheels are electrically driven, setting it apart from conventional hybrid vehicles.

The model is well equipped with voice activated sat nav featuring street level mapping for 20 European countries, audio/video DVD player, hard drive device with 30GB music file capacity and Bose ‘Energy Efficient Series’ sound system.

As part of the 31-year old’s role as an ambassador for Vauxhall, the Official England Team Sponsor, Stoney has been running a daily blog from the Women’s European Championships in Sweden on Vauxhall’s dedicated football website. England’s Women face France this evening in Group C of the Euro 2013 Finals.

Upon receiving her Vauxhall Ampera, Stoney said,

“I’m thrilled to be driving such a state-of-the-art vehicle. Vauxhall’s support of the women’s game has been outstanding over the last four years and it’s fantastic news that they’ve extended their sponsorship until 2018”

Stoney added,

“I’ve enjoyed bringing fans even closer to the team by writing my daily blog out in Sweden.”

The Basildon-born defender has been an England regular since 2000 and is a member of the 100 club, having reached a century of caps against France at the Cyprus Cup last year.

Upon succeeding Faye White as England captain last year, the Lincoln Ladies star described the honour as “the biggest privilege” she’s ever been given and went on to wear the armband of the newly-formed Team GB squad for the 2012 London Olympics.

“We’re very pleased to add Casey to our growing stable of footballers who are enjoying the cutting-edge technology of our revolutionary extended-range electric vehicle,” said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director. “For a player who has achieved so much within the women’s game to be paired with our universally-acclaimed e-REV is fantastic.”
