Electric Ampera wins Energy Efficiency Awards in “Best Car in C segment” and “Best Range Extender/Plug-in Hybrid” categories for production vehicles

  • HydroGen4 wins “Best Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV”

At the Future Car Challenge 2012, Vauxhall once again demonstrated the strength of its low and zero emission technologies competing over a 63-mile stretch from Brighton to London.

Whilst Ampera’s range extending technology made the electric ride from Brighton to London a piece of cake, the Vauxhall Ampera proved to be the most energy efficient vehicle on the market in the medium car segment, also triumphant over all plug-in hybrid powertrains.

Vauxhall’s technology of the future was also present in the form of a hydrogen fuel cell powered electric vehicle from the European test fleet. The prototype achieved top efficiency marks winning the title of “Best Hydrogen Fuel Cell EV”.

Gerard Planche, HydroGen4 test fleet manager, said: “This is a fantastic event bringing new and future green technologies from many different areas together. It was fun to see private investors and volume manufacturers competing against each other and for Vauxhall it was a great opportunity to showcase its multi-award winning Ampera together with HydroGen4, the 4th generation of our hydrogen fuel cell technology.”
